The Hyundai Elantra N (Built after October 2024) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The G70 has not yet been fully evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Elantra N has larger tires than the G70 (245/35R19 vs. 225/40R19).

The Elantra N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G70’s standard 40 series front tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Elantra N has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The G70’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Elantra N handles at .99 G’s, while the G70 3.3T Sport Prestige pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Elantra N executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the G70 Sport Prestige AWD (24.3 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.2 seconds @ .69 average G’s).

Chassis

The Hyundai Elantra N may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 750 pounds less than the Genesis G70.

To minimize engine movement during hard acceleration and transmission shifts, the Elantra N has solid engine mounts. The G70 uses conventional rubber.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Elantra N a Mid-size car, while the G70 is rated a Compact.

The Elantra N has 3.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the G70 (99.4 vs. 95.9).

The Elantra N has .8 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front shoulder room, 3.2 inches more rear legroom and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the G70.

Cargo Capacity

The Elantra N has a much larger trunk than the G70 (14.2 vs. 10.5 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Hyundai Elantra N has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the G70 Prestige offers wireless charging.

Recommendations

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Elantra as the 2021 North American Car of the Year. The G70 was last chosen in 2019.

The Hyundai Elantra outsold the Genesis G70 by over 10 to one during 2024.
