Safety

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Ioniq 5 Limited/XRT/N has standard Parking Collision Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Eletre doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Eletre have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Eletre has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

Warranty

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Eletre’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The Ioniq 5 comes with free roadside assistance for 5 years unlimited miles. Hyundai will send help if you run out of gas, need a jump-start, lock your keys in or need any assistance on the road. Lotus doesn’t give free roadside assistance for the Eletre.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 7 years and 64000 miles longer than Lotus covers the Eletre. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Eletre ends after only 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Lotus doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Eletre.

There are over 22 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Lotus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 5’s warranty.

Chassis

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1000 to 1350 pounds less than the Lotus Eletre.

The Ioniq 5 Limited has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Eletre doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Eletre doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
