Compare the2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9VS 2026 Lucid Motors Gravity

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Ioniq 9 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Gravity doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Hyundai Ioniq 9 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Lucid Motors Gravity has not been tested.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 9’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The Gravity doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 comes with a standard Surround View Monitor, while the Lucid Motors Gravity doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

The Ioniq 9 has standard Blue Link, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Gravity doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Ioniq 9 and the Gravity have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Gravity has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

The Ioniq 9 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Gravity’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 9 2 years longer than Lucid Motors covers the Gravity. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Gravity ends after only 8 years or 100,000 miles.

There are almost 43 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Lucid Motors dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 9’s warranty.

The Ioniq 9 stops shorter than the Gravity:

For better traction, the Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Gravity (285/45R21 vs. 265/50R20).

The Ioniq 9’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Gravity doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 9’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the Gravity (123.2 inches vs. 119.5 inches).

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 500 pounds less than the Lucid Motors Gravity.

The front grille of the Ioniq 9 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Gravity doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Gravity doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Ioniq 9 has 8.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Gravity (163.5 vs. 155).

The Ioniq 9 has .5 inches more front legroom, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear legroom, 2.7 inches more rear shoulder room, 2.3 inches more third row headroom and 5.2 inches more third row shoulder room than the Gravity.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 9’s middle and third row seats recline. The Gravity’s middle and third row seats don’t recline.

Both the Ioniq 9 and the Gravity offer second row automatic folding seats. The Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy’s third row seats also fold up or down at the press of a switch. The Gravity doesn’t offer automatic folding third row seats.

The Ioniq 9’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Gravity’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Ioniq 9’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Gravity doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Ioniq 9 uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Gravity doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Ioniq 9 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Gravity doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

On a hot day the Ioniq 9’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Gravity can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Ioniq 9 has a standard rear wiper. The Gravity doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Ioniq 9’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Gravity’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

When the Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Gravity’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy has standard front air conditioned seats and the Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Gravity doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Ioniq 9 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Gravity doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2026 issue and they ranked the Hyundai Ioniq 9 S higher than the Lucid Motors Gravity Touring.
