Compare the2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S

Full-time four-wheel drive is available on the Ioniq 5. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Wagoneer S.

Both the Ioniq 5 and Wagoneer S have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Ioniq 5 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Wagoneer S’ Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Wagoneer S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Wagoneer S has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Wagoneer S’ 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jeep covers the Wagoneer S. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Wagoneer S ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Wagoneer S’ (7 vs. 5 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 1 year longer than Jeep pays for maintenance for the Wagoneer S (3 years vs. 2 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 38 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 19th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 15 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

The Ioniq 5 N’s standard electric motors produces 41 more horsepower (641 vs. 600) than the Wagoneer S’ electric motors.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Wagoneer S doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Ioniq 5 N’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Wagoneer S:

For better traction, the Ioniq 5 N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Wagoneer S (275/35R21 vs. 235/50R20).

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Wagoneer S’ 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ioniq 5 N has standard 21-inch wheels. The Wagoneer S’ largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Ioniq 5 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Wagoneer S’ suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 5’s wheelbase is 5.1 inches longer than on the Wagoneer S (118.1 inches vs. 113 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Ioniq 5’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Wagoneer S’ (39.4 feet vs. 40 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Ioniq 5 XRT has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Wagoneer S (7 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the Ioniq 5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 1600 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer S.

The Ioniq 5 is 9.1 inches shorter than the Wagoneer S, making the Ioniq 5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Ioniq 5 has 7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Wagoneer S (106.5 vs. 99.5).

The Ioniq 5 has 1.8 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front legroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 1.4 inches more rear legroom and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Wagoneer S.

The front step up height for the Ioniq 5 is 1.2 inches lower than the Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility (16.6” vs. 17.8”).

The Ioniq 5 has a higher standard payload capacity than the Wagoneer S (957 vs. 879 lbs.).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Wagoneer S’ automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 3 more times in the last 4 years. The Wagoneer S has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
