Warranty

The Palisade’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the Telluride’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Palisade for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Telluride.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Palisade’s reliability 19 points higher than the Telluride.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is ranked fourth.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Palisade HTRAC gets better fuel mileage than the Telluride 4x4 (19 city/24 hwy vs. 18 city/24 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Palisade’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Telluride doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Suspension and Handling

The Palisade Limited HTRAC handles at .81 G’s, while the Telluride SX Prestige 4x4 pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Palisade Calligraphy HTRAC executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the Telluride SX 4x4 (27 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 28.7 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

Chassis

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Palisade Limited HTRAC is quieter than the Telluride SX 4x4 (74 vs. 75 dB).

Passenger Space

The front step up height for the Palisade is 1.5 inches lower than the Telluride (18” vs. 19.5”).

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Palisade easier. The Palisade’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.6 inches, while the Telluride’s liftover is 30.7 inches.

Both the Palisade and the Telluride have standard second row automatic folding seats. The Palisade Limited/Calligraphy/Night’s third row seats also fold up or down at the press of a button. The Telluride doesn’t offer automatic folding third row seats.

Ergonomics

The Palisade’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Telluride offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Palisade SEL/XRT/Limited/Calligraphy/Night has standard heated front seats and second and third row heated seats also avaiable, which keep the driver and passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Kia doesn’t offer heated seats in the third row of the Telluride.

The Palisade Calligraphy/Night has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Telluride.

The Palisade Calligraphy/Night’s Remote Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Telluride doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Economic Advantages

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Hyundai Palisade will be $1284 to $2596 less than for the Kia Telluride.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Hyundai Palisade and the Kia Telluride, based on reliability, safety and performance.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its August 2023 issue and the Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy HTRAC won out over the Kia Telluride SX Prestige X-Line 4x4.
